The E. E. Mixon Second Dragoons Foundation scholarships will be awarded annually in order to assist with the college expenses of former cavalrymen or the children of current or former cavalrymen. Applicants should submit a 500-word essay on one of the following topics:

• How our military presence in Europe contributed to the end of the Cold War.
• The role of the non-commissioned officer corps in the U.S. military.
• What America means to me.
• My Strategy for the way forward in Afghanistan.

Each essay should be accompanied by a cover sheet detailing personal information of the applicant to include;

• contact information,
• educational goals,
• projected or current field of study
• and detailed personal or family affiliation with a cavalry unit.

The value of the scholarships will range from $250-$1,000 per selected applicant per year. The funds will be deposited directly to the college tuition account of the scholarship recipient.

The essays will be judged and the scholarships will be awarded by the board members of the E.E. Mixon Second Dragoons Foundation.

Cover letters and essays should be submitted electronically to the Second Dragoons Scholarship sub-Committee no later than the 15th of July of the summer preceding the fall semester that you plan to attend.
